  2. Hike: Curecanti Creek Trail

    After descending from the high rim of the Upper Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the trail follows Curecanti Creek as it falls toward Morrow Point Reservoir. The Curecanti Needle, a 700-foot granite spire, towers above at the trail's end. Difficulty: moderate to strenuous. Elevation change: 900 feet round trip. Length: 4 miles round trip.

The river twists, turns and drops its way 10 unforgettable miles between the towns of Paonia and Hotchkiss. The actions starts in Paonia at School Lunch (class 3) and doesn't end until we conquer a half mile stretch of continuous whitewater knows as "The Ledges."Guide Company: Western Slope SUP.
